Continental tournaments around the world will determine which teams join hosts Canada, Mexico and the United States at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In Africa, nine teams will qualify directly for the World Cup, while in Asia, eight teams will qualify directly. In North and Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF), 32 teams will compete for six spots in the World Cup.

The qualification process for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is underway, with continental tournaments around the world determining which teams will join hosts Canada, Mexico and the United States at the global finals.

In Africa, nine teams will qualify directly for the World Cup, while in Asia, eight teams will qualify directly. In North and Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF), 32 teams will compete for six spots in the World Cup. In South America, 10 teams will compete for four spots in the World Cup. And in Oceania, one team will qualify for the World Cup through a play-off against a team from another confederation.

The 2026 World Cup will be the first to feature 48 teams, up from 32 teams in previous editions of the tournament. The expansion of the World Cup field is expected to make the qualification process more competitive and give more teams a chance to reach the global finals.
